Are your number plates road legal?
Yes. Every plate we make follows DVLA and MOT rules. We use BS AU 145e compliant materials, the correct legal font, and all required markings. As a DVLA registered supplier we only produce fully compliant plates.
What documents do I need to provide?
To make a road legal number plate the DVLA requires two types of documents. You must provide one from each list. 1. Proof of Identity Any one of the following is accepted: • Driving licence • Passport • Armed Forces identity card • Police warrant card • National identification card • Bank or building society statement • Debit or credit card • Utility bill or council tax bill dated within the last six months 2. Proof of Entitlement to the Registration One of the following is required to show you have the right to display the registration: • V5C Registration certificate • V5C/2 New keeper slip • V750 certificate of entitlement (for brand new private plates) • V778 retention certificate • V11 Reminder to get vehicle tax or make a SORN • V379 a temporary registration certificate • V948 or eV948 a number plate authorisation certificate • eV948/2 trailer number plate authorisation certificate with a DVLA stamp • A letter of authorisation from a lease or hire company, including a fleet operator. The letter must quote the document reference number from the V5C • Record of the insurer's name, reference and policy numbers (for repairs approved by an insurance company) • A PDF of the vehicle details from the View Vehicle Record (VVR) service from a lease or hire company, including fleet operators, which must quote the V5C document reference number when the original V5C has been suppressed • VTRC A trailer registration certificate
How do I upload my documents?
You can upload them on our document upload portal at nextdayplates.co.uk/upload-documents or send them to dvladocs@nextdayplates.co.uk by email once your order is placed. We can also accept documents sent through the post. We start production as soon as your documents are approved.
How long does delivery take?
Most orders are made and dispatched the same working day if you order before 2pm and your documents are approved by 2:30pm. FREE delivery is via Royal Mail Tracked 48 (usually 2-3 working days), or you can upgrade to Royal Mail Tracked 24 (£4.95) or Special Delivery (£10.95) at checkout.
Are 3D gel and 4D plates legal?
Yes. All 3D gel and 4D plates we supply follow DVLA regulations. They use the standard Charles Wright font, remain fully black, and include all required markings.
What is an illegal Number Plate?
An illegal number plate is any plate that does not comply with the rules set by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). This includes plates with incorrect spacing, non-standard fonts, wrong colours, inappropriate materials, or plates that are incorrectly displayed. If you drive with illegal or incorrectly displayed number plates your vehicle could fail its MOT, and you may be fined up to £1,000. If you are stopped for the first offence you may receive a 'Vehicle Defect Rectification Notice' (VDRN), giving you 14 days to fix the issue and get verification from a registered supplier. It is also important to keep your private plate safe because if it is cloned (ie someone uses the same registration on a similar vehicle) you could receive fines or speeding tickets that do not belong to you. You should contact the police and the DVLA if you suspect cloning.
Can I buy show plates?
No. We only supply fully road legal plates. Show plates cannot be used on public roads.
What size plates do you offer?
We offer the standard 520mm by 111mm plate along with short plates, hex plates, square plates, motorcycle plates, and oversized sizes. The correct option will depend on your vehicle and registration.
Do the plates come with fittings?
You can add sticky pads or screws at checkout. Sticky pads are the most popular choice because they provide a clean finish without drilling.
Can you remove the branding from the plate?
No. Supplier name (NextDayPlates.co.uk), postcode, and BS AU 145e markings are required by law on every road legal plate. We put our name on as small as possible as not to detract from the registration number.
Will the plates pass an MOT?
Yes. As long as the plates are fitted correctly and are not damaged they meet MOT standards.
Can you space my registration differently?
No. We must follow the legal spacing rules set by the DVLA. Misrepresented plates are illegal and can result in fines and the loss of the registration.
Do you offer returns?
Plates are custom made so we cannot accept returns where the wrong registration or style has been ordered. If a plate arrives damaged or with an error that is our responsibility we replace it without charge.
How long do the plates last?
We use Nikkalite reflective material and premium UV printing for a clean, long lasting finish. The plates are resistant to fading and cracking and are made to withstand normal UK road use.
