Required Documents for Number Plate Orders
Legal Requirement
UK law requires all number plate suppliers to check two types of documents before producing number plates. You must provide:
- Proof of Identity
- Proof of Entitlement to the Registration
Without these documents, we cannot legally produce your plates. All documents must be clear, readable, and valid. Screenshots or blurred images cannot be accepted.
1. Proof of Identity
You must provide one of the following:
- Driving licence
- Passport
- Armed Forces identity card
- Police warrant card
- National identification card
- Bank or building society statement
- Debit or credit card
- Utility bill or council tax bill dated within the last six months
2. Proof of Entitlement to the Registration
You must provide one of the following documents to show you have the right to display the registration number:
- V5C registration certificate
- V5C/2 new keeper slip
- V750 certificate of entitlement for brand new private plates
- V778 retention certificate
- V11 reminder to get vehicle tax or make a SORN
- V379 temporary registration certificate
- V948 or eV948 number plate authorisation certificate
- eV948/2 trailer number plate authorisation certificate with a DVLA stamp
- Letter of authorisation from a lease or hire company including fleet operators (must quote the V5C document reference number)
- Insurance details including insurer name, reference and policy numbers for repairs approved by an insurance company
- A PDF of vehicle details from the View Vehicle Record service from a lease or hire company (must quote the V5C reference number)
- VTRC trailer registration certificate
3. How to Send Your Documents
You can upload documents on our document upload portal or email them to us at: dvladocs@nextdayplates.co.uk
Documents must be:
- Clear
- Full page
- Not cropped
- In colour if possible
- Legible and unedited
4. Why These Documents Are Needed
UK law requires all registered number plate suppliers to verify:
- Your identity
- Your entitlement to the registration number
This helps prevent fraud, cloned plates, vehicle crime, and misuse of registration numbers.
5. When Your Order Will Be Processed
Production begins once:
- Your documents have been received
- Your documents have been approved
- Your payment has been completed
Orders cannot proceed without valid documentation.
